The Phantom X Timeline

1986:
• The Ostrander Protocols require the creation of a clandestine spy operation utilizing metahuman agents – The Phantom X Project is formed.

2001:
• The Phantom X Project, having been exposed in the media as a violent wetwork group, begins to operate in the open as a rehabilitation facility for superpowered criminals.

2005:
• After many trials and tribulations, Shift and White Matter make their superhero debut as members of the New Paragons. Despite constant turmoil, The New Paragons protect Quartzstar City until Shift & White Matter go AWOL. (New Paragons Special)

Late 2015:
• Musclebound psychic Golden Arrow joins the Villain Underground. (Villain Underground).

• Faceless secret agent Query joins the Amberville Heroes. (Amberville Heroes)

Early 2016:
• The Amberville Heroes and the Villain Underground team up to defeat Drake, but Golden Arrow throws the Amberville Heroes’ Obscurity off a building, destroying her legs in the process. (The Destruction of Drake)

• Query vows revenge and kidnaps the Villain Underground’s servant Donnelson while bugging Golden Arrow and Knox’s private homes. (Amberville Heroes/Villain Underground)

Late 2016:
• Golden Arrow kills Zeus’ champion Maximus Man in cold blood, seizing the Golden Laurel from his broken skull. Rumors of a God War begin to surface soon after. The Villian Underground is then captured and imprisoned by Iron Justice. (Villain Underground)

• The Villain Underground is forced into the Phantom X Project, revealing that former team member Black Legolas is a spy known as Twisted Arrow. Golden Arrow leaves soon after. (Villain Underground)

• Project director Jackson King dedicates the Project’s resources to bring in a rogue agent: Query of the Amberville Heroes. The two engage in a year-long cold war. (Amberville Heroes)

Early 2017:
• Twisted Arrow appears in Amberville as Bowstring Johnny, one of his multiple personalities. His mental fracturing is implied to be a result of his time in the Phantom X Project. (Amberville Heroes)

• The Amberville Heroes are attacked by their evil twins – exact replicas from a parallel dimension known as the Shadowverse. These exact duplicates (except evil) are known as Obfuscation, Inquisition, Miss Meteor and The Itenerant. These evil twins inadvertantly reveal one of the interdimensional laws of time and space – what happens to one version of a person also happens to their evil twin. Incapable of killing their good equivalents without dying themselves, these evil twins are stopped before stealing the identities of the Amberville Heroes. (Amberville Heroes)

• An unhinged, godlike Golden Arrow appears in Ruby River, slaughtering four superpowered teens on a hunt for more holy relics. Query follows to investigate – finding evidence to link the crime to Golden Arrow. Arrow is picked up by the Phantom X Project thereafter, disappearing. (Generation Justice)

Late 2017:
• The rest of their team apprehended, Query’s evil twin Inquisition breaks out of jail on main Earth and immediately begins to obsessively monitor the Amberville Heroes. (Amberville Heroes) Twisted Arrow appears again in his Twisted Arrow persona, seemingly stable. He attacks the Villain Underground and escapes clean. (Villain Underground)

THE ORION CRISIS:
• Query discovers that Jackson King has been gathering mystical artifacts for the purpose of creating a synthetic God named Orion loyal to the US Government. Hiring Massacre to protect the newborn diety, a team-up of Generation Justice, The Villain Underground and The Amberville Heroes manage to stop the God. Obscurity investigates King’s office and is forced to kill King in self-defense.

Early 2018:
• A teenaged psychopomp named Sophia befriends a time-traveller known as Dawn of Time. Unbeknownst to Sophia, Dawn is a cosmic menace who chaotically bends the timestream to her will. Sophia becomes unstuck in time, with multiple versions of Sophia existing due to Dawn’s meddling. (Generation Justice)

• Amberville Heroes member Dr. Doodad temporarily leaves the team to help in an environmental crisis and is replaced by reformed supervillain Sportsman. On Doodad’s dime, Sportsman is paid to be a good, upstanding person and resist his urges to engage of deadly games of sport. (Amberville Heroes)

• A videotape of Obscurity murdering Jackson King is leaked to the press and she is brought in on murder charges. (Amberville Heroes)

• ‘The Quartzstar Massacre’, when Shift and White Matter randomly began to attack civilians with their superpowers, killing 14 and injuring hundreds. Unbeknownst to the world, The Valkyrie was controlling their bodies to fight the invisible minions of The Death Pantheon. Shift and White Matter are disgraced and are forced into the Phantom X Project soon after. (Phantom X Project)

LATE 2018:
• After the tape is revealed to have been leaked by Inquisition, the sinister spy begins to torment the team once more. When Sportsman begins to act suspicious, Wayfarer investigates only to find that Sportsman is Query in disguise! Query reveals they have also stolen Jackson King’s identity and are trying to shut down the Phantom X Project from within. Inquisition escapes and Query follows. (Amberville Heroes)

• Updraft and Dionysis infiltrate the Villain Underground, pledging them in servitude to the Nature Pantheon during the God War. Not everyone agrees to play along. (Villain Underground)

• Snuff, Sophia’s evil twin from the Shadowverse, appears on our Earth and begins ‘collecting friends’. She is picked up by the Phantom X Project soon after. (Phantom X Project)

• In a galaxy far away, a god taking the form of a ghost planet named Asrio is seen to be consuming the Quillis homeworld whole. (Nebulous Nights)

EARLY 2019:
• Each member of the Villain Underground, Amberville Heroes, Generation Justice and The Nebulous Knights are all enlisted to fight in the God War and pledged to different pantheons. Each team breaks up soon after. (Various)

THE PHANTOM X PROJECT 1:
• Upon storming Olympus, Golden Arrow is told by The Fates that he caused the God War. Inside Olympus, he learns that his laurel was made by Haephestus and strikes up a partnership with the god.

• Query as Jackson King appears to be the boss of The Phantom X Project and has done nothing to stop the program’s violent excesses.

• White Matter enters the Project’s treatment project. His doctor is a sadistic psychiatrist supervillain, using his illusion powers to push White Matter towards a mental breakdown.

• Sportsman informs the prisoners he’s got a man on the outside who can plan a jailbreak.

THE PHANTOM X PROJECT 2:
• Jackson King instructs the team to go after one of The Rockets, an impossibly dangerous illuminati. The Amberville Heroes have had run-ins with The Rockets in the past.

• Shift attempts to abduct freelancer 5GHz and fails, revealing his ability to reverse time. Later interviews reveal that he was granted this gift for saving our reality from parallel reality invaders.

THE PHANTOM X PROJECT 3:
• White Matter’s powers begin to return unexpectedly, despite the treatment. Golden Arrow murders The Chechan Rocket on a social media broadcast, egged on by a bloodthirsty crowd.

THE PHANTOM X PROJECT 4:
• Jackson King sends the team after The Evangelist, another former foe of the Amberville Heroes who escaped Query’s best efforts.

• The Valkyrie takes over Shift and White Matter’s bodies again. Shift reveals that he knows what happened on the day of the Quartzstar Massacre and he’s not fighting in The God War. White Matter listens to The Valkyrie’s offer of freedom from Phantom X and stripping his powers.

THE PHANTOM X PROJECT 5:
• Jackson King sends the team after The Villain Underground, another former foe of The Amberville Heroes who got away.

• Query is abusing their power and using the team to enact old grudges. In the interviews, it is clear that Query is keeping Golden Arrow in Phantom X for revenge. They provide tapes of Golden Arrow at home from early 2016 and has sent secret agents to steal his identity.

THE PHANTOM X PROJECT 6:
• King reveals their ultimate plan to U.S. Ape – rob supervillains of their gadgets and relics, kidnap metas from parallel dimensions to be enlisted into Phantom X and have U.S. Ape lead an army of metahumans into The God War on behalf of the U.S. Government.

• Sportsman springs a breakout with the assitance of Snuff and The Knowledge Pantheon’s Coyote.

• Golden Arrow is presented a suit of armor by Haephestus to match The Golden Laurel. He pledges servitude to the Knowledge Pantheon.

• Shift & White Matter are visited by The Valkyrie and manage to fight her off. They use the bedlam of the riot to escape The Phantom X Project.

• U.S. Ape clashes with Coyote, Snuff and Sportsman. Ape rips off Sportsman’s disguise to reveal Inquisition – Query’s evil twin from the Shadowverse. Inquisition and Coyote retreat.

• Inquisition bursts into King’s office and removes Query’s disguise. Forcing Query into a memory eraser machine, Inquisition reveals that they will be stepping into Jackson King’s shoes.

• U.S. Ape and Snuff go A.W.O.L. U.S. Ape is recruited into the Nature Pantheon by The Valkyrie while Snuff is possessed by the Ghost Planet Asrio of the Death Pantheon.

THE GOD WAR:
• Golden Arrow reappears at Robonobo’s wedding and kills Silicon Artist in cold blood.

• Shift and White Matter’s rebellion against The Valkyrie causes the pantheon to be short one member, causing the prophecy of a new pantheon to fail and robbing the Nature Pantheon of any chance to win.

• As the Nature Pantheon goes to war with the Death Pantheon, U.S. Ape is forced to kill Snuff in cold blood.

• Golden Arrow attempts to ascend to Godhood but is humiliated by Eris. Tortured and trapped in his own metallic suit, The Golden God now exists to attend to his master Eris in total servitude.

• Coyote, Haephestus and The Valkyrie are all trapped inside Pandora’s box, then destroyed.

EARLY 2020:
• Golden Arrow is enslaved to the goddess Eris, who is proudly reigning over an age of chaos.

• U.S. Ape is A.W.O.L. following The God War.

• Snuff is dead and Sophia must now outrun death itself. Shift & White Matter are wanted criminals, on the lam.

• Inquistion, the new Jackson King, is still operating the Phantom X Project and perhaps has agents in the White House.

• A mind-wiped Query appears as a reserve member of Obscurity’s Union of Heroes. It appears that this penitent version of Query remembers nothing of Phantom X or their time with the Amberville Heroes.
